Swiss Breeze - European H.O.G. Rally, Lugano, Switzerland

16th-18th July 2010

As I have no idea at this time just how many riders are interested in this ride, when they will want to leave the UK or how long and what type of roads they are interested in riding I have several options available.

Option 1 Channel Tunnel (3 Day Ride Leaving London early Tues 6th July) Ave 350 miles per day.
Tuesday - An early start from London to the channel tunnel then ride south to Troyes or Reims an easy, leisurely Péage ride or a more brisk option, using more challenging D roads
Wednesday - A fairly long day via Lyon to meet up with riders from Option 2 near Geneva
Thursday - Ride into the Rally site either over the Col d’Iseran, a challenging ride or take the main roads further north, a much ‘easier’ ride.

Option 2 Portsmouth - Le Havre overnight ferry (6 days leaving on the midnight ferry from Portsmouth Fri 9th July) Ave 250 miles per day.
Saturday - Ride South from Le Havre to stop near Nantes
Sunday - Ride South East to overnight South of Limoges
Mon/Tues/Wed - 3 day ride East through the Tarn Gorges and Millau Bridge to overnight near Geneva and meet up with any riders from Option 1
Ride into the Rally site either over the Col d’Iseran a challenging ride or take the main roads further south a much ‘easier’ ride.

Both options will have a guided route as well as a self guided, more direct option. The guided route will generally be an early start with a long lunch stop and late afternoon/early evening arrival at the overnight stop. To suit differing budgets there will hopefully be more than one hotel, chateau or guest house near the overnight destination although everyone is free to book an alternate if they wish. Riders can leave later and take the direct Péage route to the lunch stop and join the longer afternoon ride or visa versa. Routes, lunch and overnight destinations will be published prior to the departure and everyone will have the ride leaders and organisers contact details. The guided route will be limited to around half a dozen riders who will ride a brisk pace or you can set your own pace if you are happy to navigate, arriving and leaving at the lunch destination in your own time.

As you can see there are many options depending on what folk want and how many decide to join us. If the numbers are small I will change the arrangements to suit and offer a variety of the above options to a group (maximum number 20). If this is the case it is important that you have ridden with us (or me) on at least one previous occasion this year.

Please email me by clicking here with any questions, but the whole idea is for everyone on the ride to have fun whatever we do.
